Fran Marno
Picture
Fran Marno was a lecturer in art theory, painting and drawing at Elam School of Fine Arts, Auckland University. She has a Doctorate of Fine Arts and was awarded both MFA and Doctoral scholarships. She had a Kate Edgar Post-Doctoral fellowship that gave her an artist's  residency at Unitec for 3 years.
She is now self employed and exhibits regularly in Auckland.

Her artwork expresses alternative feminist ways of perceiving paradigms of female beauty and sexuality. From oversized portraits to rumpled bedclothes to dying wedding bouquets, the body is always present, even in it's absence. She mines the rich tapestry of her community and produces works that "record and invent ways of subverting, dismantling or critiquing stereotypes."
Of her paintings she says "they have their twists and turns, their deceptions."
